Best For

Verdict

Only major AI tool focused specifically on native mobile apps with built in App Store publishing

What it does

AI App Generation

Describe your app idea in plain English and Rork generates a working mobile app with UI, navigation, and core logic. Iterate by chatting: request changes, add features, or fix issues through conversation.

Cross Platform Apps

Build one app that works on iPhone, Android, and the web from a single codebase. Powered by React Native and Expo, so the apps are real native apps, not web wrappers.

Instant Device Preview

Test your app on your actual phone by scanning a QR code with the free Expo Go app. See changes in real time as you iterate with the AI.

App Store Publishing

Publish your finished app directly to the Apple App Store or TestFlight. The process is built into Rork so you do not need to deal with Xcode or build tools yourself.

Code Export and GitHub

Export your full source code to GitHub on paid plans. You own 100% of the code, can continue development in any editor, and there is no vendor lock in.

Rork Max

Build native Swift apps for every Apple platform: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and iMessage. Includes 3D games, AR experiences, widgets, Live Activities, and more. Powered by Claude Opus 4.6.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Only major AI tool focused specifically on native mobile apps with built in App Store publishing
  • Genuinely fast: working prototype on your phone in minutes, published app in hours or days
  • No coding required for basic apps; describe what you want in plain English and iterate through conversation
  • Full code ownership: export to GitHub, continue in any editor, no vendor lock in
  • Rork Max brings unprecedented capabilities: native Swift for every Apple platform including Vision Pro and Apple Watch
  • Cross platform from one codebase: iOS, Android, and web via React Native and Expo
  • Free tier available with 35 credits per month to try before committing
  • Backed by a16z with over 1 million apps built by users and 743,000+ monthly website visitors

Cons

  • Credit based pricing can be expensive for iterative development; each prompt costs one credit regardless of complexity, and credits do not roll over
  • Bug reports are common: users report crashes, preview failures, and the AI sometimes getting stuck in error loops
  • No built in database, authentication, or payments; must integrate Supabase, Firebase, or RevenueCat manually after exporting code
  • App Store publishing still requires an Apple Developer Account ($99/year) and some technical knowledge for certificates and signing
  • Google Play publishing is not natively supported yet; requires exporting code and using Expo EAS manually
  • No visual drag and drop editor; all customization happens through text prompts only
  • Customer support is limited on lower tiers (email only on Junior, chat only on Middle+) and the team is small
  • Complex features like social login, push notifications, and in app purchases require exporting code and manual integration

How to get started

1

Create your account

Go to rork.com and sign in. The free tier gives you 35 credits per month (5 per day) to try building your first app. No credit card required.

2

Describe your app idea

Type a description of the app you want to build in the chat. Be as specific as possible about the screens, features, and functionality you need. For example: 'Build a recipe app where I can save my favorite recipes, add ingredients to a shopping list, and share recipes with friends.'

3

Preview on your phone

Download the free Expo Go app on your iPhone or Android phone, then scan the QR code that Rork shows you. Your app will load on your actual device within seconds. You can also use the browser preview for quick checks.

4

Iterate and refine

Keep chatting to add features, change the design, or fix issues. Each message uses one credit. Use the version history to restore previous versions if something breaks. Share your app with others using App Preview links (.rork.app) before publishing.

5

Publish to the App Store

When your app is ready, click Publish and follow the instructions. You will need an Apple Developer Account ($99/year) for the App Store. For Google Play, export your code to GitHub and use Expo EAS to build and submit. Upgrade to a paid plan ($25+/month) if you need code export and publishing access.
