Custom Styles and Profile Preferences

What is AI Personalization?

AI personalization lets you configure how the chatbot communicates with you. You can set your role, industry, preferred tone (formal, casual, concise), and output format so every response matches your expectations without having to ask each time. Some tools offer preset styles you can switch between, while others let you build fully custom profiles. The result is an assistant that feels tailored to you from the first message.

Common use cases
  • Setting a preferred writing style (concise, detailed, technical, casual) that applies to all conversations
  • Telling the AI about your role and industry so it adjusts its vocabulary and assumptions
  • Switching between different style profiles depending on the task (e.g., formal for emails, casual for brainstorming)

Step 1: Set Profile Preferences

Go to Settings > Profile Preferences. Tell Claude about your role, industry, and formatting preferences. Applied globally.

Step 2: Choose or create a Style

Go to Settings > Styles. Pick a preset (Formal, Concise, Explanatory) or upload sample content to generate a custom style.

Step 3: Add Project Instructions

Inside a Project's settings, define project specific rules that override your global preferences within that workspace.

Works hand in hand with Memory

These settings give you explicit control, but Claude also personalizes automatically through Memory. As you chat, Claude learns your preferences, working context, and communication style, then applies that knowledge alongside your style and profile settings. Together they create a progressively more tailored experience without extra effort on your part.

Priority order

When multiple personalization layers are active, Claude applies them in this order (highest priority first): Project Instructions > Custom Style > Profile Preferences > Memory. This means a project instruction will always override a conflicting memory or global preference.
