What are Custom AI Personas?
Custom personas (called "GPTs" or "Gems" depending on the tool) are specialized versions of the AI that you configure for a specific purpose. You define a persona's instructions, personality, knowledge base, and capabilities once, then reuse it whenever you need that particular type of help. You can also browse and use personas created by other users. It is like having a team of specialized assistants instead of one general purpose chatbot.
Common use cases- Creating a writing assistant tuned to your brand voice and style guidelines
- Building a subject matter expert that has your company's documentation preloaded
- Sharing a custom persona with your team so everyone gets consistent, specialized help
Step 1: Open the GPT Editor
Go to chatgpt.com/gpts/editor. Describe what you want in plain language, or use the Configure tab for manual control.
Step 2: Customize Behavior
Set the name, description, instructions, conversation starters, and upload knowledge files (PDF, text, etc.).
Step 3: Enable Capabilities
Choose which tools your GPT can use: web browsing, code interpreter, DALL-E image generation, and custom API actions.
Step 4: Publish or Share
Keep your GPT private, share it via link, or publish it to the GPT Store for anyone to discover and use.
